I am really interested to see what she does with the entire trilogy. I am a huge Atwood fan and I do have this in my shelves (waiting to be read) - I am aware of it sci-fi-ish vibe so I am a bit hesitant to dig into it right away, as I felt that it would require a different kind of focus to really follow through the narrative. Your review made me want to pick this book up from my dusty shelves. :)GatheringBookshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04477710897574769648noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3647764256243880883.post-44222789400337606792012-09-28T19:43:31.337-04:002012-09-28T19:43:31.337-04:00Yes, I think I sometimes have trouble buying the i...Yes, I think I sometimes have trouble buying the idea that the world is changed in just one day. In this novel, you see the slow process that leads to that tragic day.Lindseyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00333927782181943347noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3647764256243880883.post-62834691081008169972012-09-28T14:38:11.947-04:002012-09-28T14:38:11.947-04:00This sounds really good, and I love what you said ...This sounds really good, and I love what you said about the plausibility making it so chilling. :-) That's what makes dystopian literature so powerful, isn't it?Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3647764256243880883.post-7016482359767853932012-09-28T11:40:55.888-04:002012-09-28T11:40:55.888-04:00Oh man, Jennifer, I have that feeling just about e...Oh man, Jennifer, I have that feeling just about every day. It's especially bad when I'm scrolling through everyone's book blogs and adding so many new books to my tbr list.

I don't know if it would have been more interesting as a linear story. I'm tempted to say no because I think it does drive the story to an extent to find out how the little boy becomes the last man on earth. Maybe there's less of an impetus to keep reading if it's just another story of a kid who doesn't quite fit in.
