It's Monday and boy, it's been a week!

So, this week...it's been an interesting one. Thanksgiving was lovely. We had breakfast with my in-laws and that side of the family and watched the parade. Then we went to my grandmother's house where we enjoyed a giant dinner with twenty or so of our closest family members and friends. On Friday, we pulled out the Christmas decorations and got to work. We watched that Eloise at the Plaza Christmas movie while decorating (I got David to watch a movie that wasn't Cars or Toy Story!)

Friday night was when things got interesting. I was upstairs putting some laundry away when David came up and told me he was hungry. My husband had gone to help someone from the church, so I started to follow David downstairs but stopped to grab the laundry basket. David took this opportunity to try to slide down the banister. He didn't make it. He landed face first on the floor after falling several feet. We called the EMTs and we are so thankful to report that he didn't suffer any broken bones or a concussion. He is, however, currently sporting a black eye, a split lip, and some serious abrasions on and around his nose. It's been a very interesting weekend and while I am forever grateful to our local police force and EMTs, I hope to never ever see them in my house again.

  1. Wow, I'm so glad he wasn't hurt any worse than he was! That could have been so bad! Its too bad he fell, but be thankful it was worse!

I've had the EMTs and firefighters in my home before too, and I know exactly how you feel--never again please!

    1. We are feeling very thankful this week and it has nothing to do with Thanksgiving! Here's to hoping that neither of us ever meet the local EMTs in our houses again.

  2. Oh no! I am so glad it he wasn't seriously hurt. My 9mo old grand nephew slipped in the tub, he just won't sit down, and had to go to the ER for 4 stitches today! His mom did very well! ;o)

    1. Oh my goodness, how scary! I'm glad your grand nephew is ok. It's funny how you are very in control and focused on what has to be done until after everything is over...

  3. Glad to hear he is ok - nothing worse than someone close being hurt. Your Thanksgiving meals sound lovely.

A nice list of books you have there also! I have Telegraph Avenue by Michael Chabon waiting to be read!

    1. Thank you, Fay. I read Telegraph Avenue a few months ago. I liked it, although it's not my favorite of Chabon's books. I hope you enjoy it!

  6. I loved the Boxcar Children when I was a kid. I need to get all those books again and reread them.

    1. They are a lot of fun! I was surprised to discover that only the first 19 were written by Werner though. The rest were written by ghostwriters. Who knew?

  7. Oh David! Little daredevil, is he? I had a few of those, though I still say boys are easier to raise than girls. Just a lot of heart racing moments. Glad he's fine other than the facial bruising and black eye. Hang in there, mom!

And sounds like you had a wonderful Thanksgiving. We had the best one in years if you measure them in laughs.

Happy reading! (and good luck with DareDevil David);)

    1. Daredevil David...that sounds about right. I thought he might slow down a bit post accident and he did, but only for a night or so!
I'm glad you had a wonderful Thanksgiving. It's so nice to have the time to reconnect with everyone. And then when you are sad about having to leave everyone, you know that Christmas is just around the corner!

    2. Very true, so true.

My oldest son broke both bones in his arm when he was 12 - I thought it would make him more careful.....it just added a "weapon" to his cache. The cast. A couple days of taking it easy and then he's wrestling around with his bros and friends even harder than before. Boys - nothing quite like them. ;)

    1. I think I lost a few years from my life this weekend. And then I wondered what people thought as they saw his poor face in the grocery store today!

Unfortunately, I was underwhelmed by Antarctica on a Plate and found myself reading just to be done with it already. Man, I hate saying that about a book...

  9. Oh my word, the poor kid!! I'm betting he won't try that particular trick again anytime soon! I'm with Mardel..boys can make your heart pump like crazy but girls? Oh mama. ;)

    1. That is what I keep hearing. There is apparently a magical age where the boys become easy to handle and the girls become impossible.

I'm just going to remember how resilient little people are for the next few years, since I fear this will not be the last time he scares his mama!

  10. Oh wow! I'm glad he's okay! That must have been so traumatic for the both of you! :( Poor kid! Poor Mama!

I loved The Awakening! It's not my usual cup of tea but I thought it was great! I hope you enjoy it too!

    1. Thanks for your concern. It was not an experience I would wish on anyone, but we are so thankful he is ok.
I think I read The Awakening years ago, but I don't really remember it. I like to try to throw in a classic or an older book every once in a while, especially with all of the pressure to read all of the new releases!

  11. You poor thing. it must have been such a fright seeing him fall. Thank god he is ok and not hurt badly.

Thats a very interesting selection of books, I'm going to look a couple of them up and find out more.

    1. The awful part was that I didn't actually see it and then had to try to explain to the EMTs what had happened...or what I thought might have happened since David was still a little too shaken up to really say.

I hope you find a few books to add to your tbr list!

  13. Oh, it's so disappointing when fun turns to pain. Hope David's bruises and abrasions repair quickly.

I love short stories - they are usually really quirky and thought - provoking.:)

I'm looking forward to reading all of the short stories. Kate was quite the rebel in her time. :)
