Readers Imbibing Peril

RIP8main1

R.I.P. is an annual event hosted by Carl of Stainless Steel Droppings. Each year, I read about the bloggers participating and I think, "Well, I don't really like scary stories. I don't think that is the reading event for me unless I want to be triple checking all the doors at night and sleeping with the lights on."

But I have Night Film waiting for me to pick up at the library and I hear it's pretty creepy. So I decided to jump in with both (proverbial) feet and take part in R.I.P.

I will be doing Peril the Second, which means I will be reading two books that fall under one of these categories:
Mystery.
Suspense.
Thriller.
Dark Fantasy.
Gothic.
Horror.
Supernatural.

So now, lovely readers, I need a second book. What should I pick for my second creepy read? Are you participating in R.I.P? What are you reading?

  1. Yay! Glad you're joining. I actually just requested the Night Film from the library after hearing everyone rave and will be adding it to my RIP pile.

If you're not a huge fan of creepy, add a little mystery! I've read Maisie Dobbs or the Alan Bradley series for the event. Can't wait to see what other books you choose!

    1. I've read a few of the Flavia books, but I'm not caught up yet. I've been meaning to read Maisie Dobbs for ages. Thanks for the fantastic suggestions!

  2. Nice to know that you are joining the RIP event, Lindsey. I am thinking of joining it too. 'Night Film' sounds like a wonderful choice. Will look forward to knowing which book you plan to read after that. I haven't decided on the books that I am planning to read, yet. Happy reading!

  3. The Seance by John Harwood has a nice Gothic feel to it; have you ever given him a try? This challenge sounds like fun. Might have to sign up myself.

I'm taking part this year too, for the first time. I've read one book already and am looking forward to reading more.

    1. Hooray for first timers!
I hopped over and checked out your post. You have some great books lined up for the challenge and I'm excited to see what you think of them.

  5. There are a few new books by Stephen King this year that look good, although The Stand is my favorite. Maybe something by Neil Gaiman or something classic like Poe, Shirley Jackson, Susan Hill? So many good options! I also loved The Last Werewolf and The Historian. I wish I had time to join in.

    1. Thank you for all of the suggestions! I'm ashamed to admit that I haven't read anything by Stephen King. I think they take your book blogging privileges back for things like that...:)
