It's Monday and we have had a lot of celebrating!

Hello again! This has been quite the week.

David turned seven so we celebrated with his friends on the actual day and then celebrated with family on Saturday. He also got to go see New Jersey author Dan Gutman (author of the My Weird School series) at our local library and have his books signed. We have to start them young, right?!?

With everything going on this week, I only read one book. On the plus side, my desire to review books seems to be coming back. I think I might actually catch up this week!

Read This Week:
Some Luck
By Jane Smiley

Posts from this Past Week:

Reading Now:
First Impressions: A Novel of Old Books, Unexpected Love, and Jane Austen
By Charlie Lovett

Up Next:
The Underground Girls of Kabul: In Search of a Hidden Resistance in Afghanistan
By Jenny Nordberg

What are you reading this week?

    1. Smiley's writing reminds me of Marilynne Robinson's novels. It's this big book about the big moments of life and the day-to-day observations of becoming older and having a growing family.

    1. Thanks Sam! It's such a good feeling when they spontaneously thank you and say that they had a good birthday. :)

I hope your little guy is feeling better!

    1. He had a blast! We actually were discussing the series with one of the librarians and she told us that the author would be coming to the library soon. So of course, David had to meet him in person!

    1. I heard about the trilogy too! I have always enjoyed family epics. One of my favorite series in junior high followed this one family through American history.

  10. I like attending author signings but usually take the winter off. The weather is so uncertain in Minnesota in the winter that I don't plan any author road trips. Here is my week. Happy reading!

    1. I can certainly understand that! We are fortunate to live right down the street from the library, so it's a short trip!

  11. I love that picture of your son at the book signing! Looks like he's having a very deep conversation - you definitely gotta start 'em young!

What do you think of First Impressions so far? I read it last week and LOVED it but I'm a sucker for books about books and mysteries.

    1. I think Mr. Gutman was getting some insight into just how weird David finds his own school!

I like it so far, although I am finding myself more interested in Jane's story than the contemporary one.
