I didn't pick out any books at the bookstore, but that doesn't mean I haven't been reading. This week, I finished reading Wonder Women and finally got around to Lyndsay Faye's Dust and Shadow and Colson Whitehead's The Underground Railroad.

I'm currently reading The End of Memory and I just picked up a big pile of holds from the library, so my next read will be Wally Lamb's newest novel I'll Take You There.

What are you reading this week?

I'll look forward to hearing what you thought about Underground Railroad. For some reason I've been on the fence about reading it.
ReplyDeleteI liked it a lot. I think I would really have been blown away though, if I hadn't been hearing all the hype for the past six months!
DeleteAhh, such cute pictures, sounds like he had a great day with some enjoyable celebrations - who doesn't want to go to the bookstore on there birthday?!
ReplyDeleteLots of new to me titles here. Happy reading!
Thanks Jade! I think we are going to make it a birthday tradition in our house. :)
DeleteGreat pictures! It sounds like a fun birthday. All of your books are new to me. I've seen Underground Railroad on lots of blogs lately. Come see my week here. Happy reading!
ReplyDeleteThanks Kathy! Happy reading to you too!
DeleteHappy birthday, 9 is a great age!
ReplyDeleteI'll Take You There is one I've been thinking about reading. I'll be interested to see what you think of it. Have a great week and happy reading!
I'm only a few chapters in, but I've always enjoyed Wally Lamb's books in the past!
DeleteI've been hearing a lot about The Underground Railroad. I'll be interested to hear your thoughts on it!
ReplyDeleteIt seems like everyone has been talking about it! It's definitely a powerful and well-written book.
DeleteHappy birthday to your (not so) little guy! Sounds like you had a fun celebration.
ReplyDeleteI love the cover of Dust and Shadow, but I'm not so excited about the contents. Not my sort of book. :)
Thanks Julie! I can't believe he's already nine...
DeleteIt's not necessarily my usual kind of book, but I really enjoyed Faye's book Jane Steele so I decided to give it a try.
Happy birthday to that cute little boy! A bookstore is always a great destination for a bday ☺
ReplyDeleteI'm interested in your thoughts on your new haul!
Thanks Rita!!
DeleteThe new books from the bookstore? The kids filled in some gaps in their HP/Anna Hibiscus books and I think D got the first book in a dragon series and The City of Ember.
Dust and Shadow is on my Wishlist! Have you read Faye's The Gods of Gotham? He does historical fiction very well. And The Underground Railroad is also on my TBR. My library has the audiobook. I think celebrating a birthday in a bookstore is perfect :)
ReplyDeleteI haven't read that one yet, but I really liked her book Jane Steele. How is Gods of Gotham?
DeleteAw, Happy Birthday, little dude! :)
ReplyDeleteThanks Jennifer!
