It's Monday and we had a great weekend!

Hi everyone! So I kind of fell off of the face of the earth this week, but there was a very good reason.

My mom celebrated a big birthday this year. The actual day of her birthday was pretty quiet, but we really made up for it! On Thursday, she left for what she thought was a weekend away with my dad. Instead, she got a weekend away at this fantastic log cabin in the Catskills with her husband, all of her children (including the one who lives on the West Coast), one son-in-law, two boyfriends of said children, and two grandchildren.

It was a really wonderful few days, but it took quite a bit of planning to make it all happen and keep it a surprise until my parents arrived at the cabin!

I am hoping to get some reviews written this week but, until then, let's talk books. I finished reading The Dirt Cure and find myself incensed at the lack of food regulation in this country and how corrupt it can be. I'm also pondering some ways to make sure that my children are eating better food. During our trip, I read another Phryne Fisher mystery and now I am racing through Waking Gods (Themis Files #2) before I need to take it back to the library.

What are you reading this week?

  1. What a fun celebration for your mom!! My mom will be 90 this year and we are all flying in to surprise her. Well I'm telling her I'm coming, but my husband and kids will be a surprise! My siblings and their kids and grandkids are doing the same, luckily they all live close or within a 3 hour drive. All your books are new to me, so happy reading!

Book 2 of the Themis Files came out???? Eeek! My husband and I loved the first book. Shoot, I already got him a stack of books for Father's Day - guess this goes on the birthday list for October!

    Enjoy!

    1. I'm always happy to pique interest in new books! The first book is a mystery with a fantastic flapper female detective. The second is the sequel in a trilogy about a mysterious metal robot.

  8. Beautiful cabin-- I've been to the Catskills so many times as my mother's cousin and husband had a vacation home there since the '60s and now retired there. Glad your mom had this wonderful surprise. Now enjoy your reading :)

  9. What a wonderful surprise for your mother. I can imagine all the planning that went into this event. It must have been hard to keep the secret!

I've enjoyed the Phryne Fisher mysteries on TV but as yet have not read any of the novels. Enjoy your week.

    1. It was hard to keep the secret! I told my kids the day before we left because I didn't think they would be able to keep it for long!

I love the tv show too. The books are good, but I think I like watching Phryne more than reading about her.
