Hello there. I'm writing from my couch where my almost two month old (!) has decided that I am the only sort of surface that will do for her current nap. This baby does give a very nice cuddle, so I'm going to go with it.
How was your week? I'm feeling good about reading right now. I read two books in a week after only getting through one last week and I really enjoyed both of them. Hooray!
Read This Week:
The Interestings
By Meg Wolitzer
The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks
By Rebecca Skloot
Posts from this Past Week:
It's Monday
June Wrap Up
Review of Personal Days
Reading Now:
A Guide To Being Born
By Ramona Ausubel
Up Next:
The Other Typist
By Suzanne Rindell
What are you reading this week?
Ooh. I've got A Guide to being born on my list! I love that cover. Look forward to hearing what you think about it.
ReplyDeleteHee I guess we both do a lot of blogging/reading with babies sleeping on us.
So far I've read four of the stories and they have all been good, but one really blew me away.
DeleteIt's a good way to read and blog, isn't it?? :)
I've heard such good things about The Other Typist...it's on my list of books to read this summer.
ReplyDeleteHere's my It's Monday post.
Have a great week!
I'm excited to start it. It seems to be on the summer reading list of a lot of people!
DeleteI've heard lots of good things about The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks, but I don't think it really appeals to me
ReplyDeleteIf you think you might be interested at all, I would really encourage you to give it a try. The science is explained very well and the writing is fantastic. I think it might be my favorite book of the month.
DeleteI haven't heard of any of your book choices but hope you enjoy them all. My Monday Report is here. Happy reading!
ReplyDeleteThanks Kathy! I hope you have a happy reading week too. :)
DeleteI really want to read The Interestings! I've heard so much about it! I read Henrietta Lacks for my book club in the spring. We all thought it was fascinating.
ReplyDeleteThe Interestings was a good read. It's a long book but it doesn't really feel that way when you reading it.
DeleteYay for successful reading weeks! :-) I do wish mine had been in the similar vein to yours. Ah well, here's to a new week :-)
ReplyDeleteThe Other Typist is a book I'm seeing about a bit within the blogging community... I hope you'll share your thoughts on it.
My Book Bubble
Last week was really frustrating for me, so maybe this will be a good week for you!
DeleteI will definitely be writing about The Other Typist. I'm excited to start reading it.
I've been hearing fantastic things about A Guide to Being Born, I hope you like it. I've been curious about The Other Typist as well. I'll be looking forward to your reviews :)
ReplyDeleteHave a great week!
A Guide To Being Born is wonderful so far and short stories are perfect to read while feeding the baby! :)
DeleteMy son loved taking all his naps on me when he was very little, and I loved it too! A Guide to Being Born looks great. Have a great week.
ReplyDeleteYup, our baby girl seems to have a case of "please don't put me down" lately and we are generally happy to oblige! :)
DeleteI'm impressed with your reading progress, especially with baby in tow! Oh, I remember those days...when I could blog with baby asleep on my chest...good times. :) Have a good reading week!
ReplyDeleteYou will be having those days again in December! They are so very sweet. :)
DeleteNice post.
ReplyDeleteI LOVED The Other Typist. Let me know what you think. The ending made me say: what?
Enjoy your books.

I'm glad to hear you enjoyed it! Hopefully I will be getting to it in the next few days. :)
DeleteI loved The Immortal Life, and I hope you did too! I also just received The Interestings and I've really excited to read it! Have a great week!
ReplyDeleteThe Immortal Life was fantastic! I'm so glad I read it. :)
DeleteI've read both The Interestings and the Immortal Life - great reads!
ReplyDeleteThanks for putting A Guide to Being Born back on my radar! I'd forgotten about it but love the concept and am so curious to see what she does with it. And I just downloaded The Other Typist last night. I'm so backlogged with reading books for review though, I don't know when I'll get to read any others! It seems like you don't take on that many; maybe you have the right idea - just reviewing books from the library or your shelf...
A Guide to Being Born is fantastic so far. I figured it would take me a while since I'm trying to save the stories for baby feeding time. It's not going so well though - I think I only have two or three left!
DeleteHow sweet! I found The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks really interesting
ReplyDeleteWishing you a great reading week

Yes, I'm so glad I read it. I felt entertained and informed, which is a very tough balance to achieve.
DeleteI looked up some of the books you have listed to see if I might want to read them...I'm still confused about them. Each one of them had wildly differing reviews - like each person read an entirely different novel. So...I guess I'm going to wait and see what you say about them in your review...
ReplyDeleteThe Baby! one of my favorite things about having babies is the time spent lazing around the bed or couch...the baby asleep on my stomach, reading or just...being there. Nothing quite compares to those intervals....even when my youngest was having his nightly hour long crying fits, he still spent time on my stomach, with me singing to him songs like Mercedes Benz (janis joplin) or Summer time....(i didn't know any lullabies) listening to him alternate between crying and hiccuping sobs...it all was precious. :) Enjoy, Enjoy!
Have a great week.
My Week
That's so funny! Reading is so subjective, isn't it??
DeleteIt's such a sweet time. You just want to soak up every minute! I have to admit that this little girl is hearing her fair share of Broadway tunes but she seems to be ok with that. :)
I'm looking forward to a sleeping baby on my chest again--my current one is too big and heavy! ;) LOVED Henrietta Lacks and I hope that you did, too. A guide to being born looks interesting--I'll have to look it up!
ReplyDeleteI am loving the little cuddles. But my son looked at me the other day and said, "You can't pick me up anymore. I'm too big." So I smiled at him and scooped him up. But at five years old, that kid is going to be as tall as I am soon!
DeleteI hope you are enjoying your last few weeks of pregnancy and getting some reading time in! When I was reading A Guide to Being Born, I found that short stories are the perfect length for baby feeding time - maybe that will work for you too! :)
