It's Monday and I am one tired reader

Hi friends!

I am checking in late because it was a very long, but most excellent weekend. On Mother's Day, my husband and sisters (plus one boyfriend) made brunch for my mom and me. It was delicious and so relaxing to know that the kids were happily running around and no one had to keep them quiet during a fancy restaurant brunch!

One of my sisters is visiting from California for the week, so she spent the night on Sunday. We stayed up much too late for the approaching 30 crowd. Consequently, Monday morning was kind of rough. My second grader did make it to school on time, but I fear the rest of the morning featured some snuggling and a small nap may have happened this afternoon.

The reading continued as usual this week. I had fun reading the short stories in A Tyranny of Petticoats and finished All Of Us And Everything this morning in between painting and reading with my favorite toddler. I even posted some reviews this week! You can read my thoughts on Be Safe, I Love You and Hanging Mary, as well as my April wrap-up post.

I am excited to finally read Alias Grace. It will probably get some time before bed tonight. Next up is Bad Feminist from the library.

What are you reading this week?

  1. Sounds like a wonderful Mother's Day...and a wonderful Monday, too! I really miss those days of painting & cuddling with toddlers - enjoy it because it all goes by much too fast.

I've been hearing a lot about All of Us & Everything - sounds good. And I MUST read a Margaret Atwood soon. Can you believe I never have??

Enjoy your books this week - and get some rest!

P.S. I stayed up WAY too late with my family this weekend, too :)

    1. It was a pretty great weekend + Monday. I'm always happy when my family gets to spend lots of time together.

All of Us was an ok read for me, but Atwood is always a fantastic choice! The Handmaiden's Tale is a classic, but I also loved The Blind Assassin!

  2. All Of Us and Everything sounds excellent. It seems you had a good week of reading and visiting with family. For me, it was Saturday night that I had to recover from, but luckily that meant sleeping in on Mother's Day!

    Have a great week.

    1. Ah, sleeping in. It has a bit of a different definition when you have kids, doesn't it?? :)

  3. A new Atwood? Great! Must check out your titles as I've only read of the Roxane Gay book.
I don't have small kids anymore but my pets wake me up if I sleep too late, so it's like having perpetual youngsters!
Sounds like a wonderful brunch with family. I spent my Mother's day afternoon shopping in Bed, Bath and Beyond with my younger daughter and we had fun picking out new decor for my bathroom in my new home. Then she cooked dinner for me, so it was a nice day.

Enjoy your week, and your visiting sister...

    1. It's new to me, but I think it was published quite a few years ago!

That sounds like a nice Mother's Day, Rita. It's good when your kids take care of you for a little bit! :)

  4. IT must have been nice to see you sister from California! She lives far away! I tend to stay up too late talking when I see my sister after a long absence.

    1. She does indeed live too far away! Her husband is serving in the Air Force, so we hope to convince them to move back to the East Coast in the future.

Does your sister live close to you?

  5. Sounds like a great weekend--it's always nice when the kids can run around and not disturb anyone. We went out to dinner on Saturday (thankfully at a loud and not very crowded restaurant) but I finally had enough and yelled "We're leaving NOWWWWWWWWW."

    :)

Looking forward to hearing what you think of Alias Grace. It's been on my to read for WAY too long.

    1. Haha, I have certainly been there. I may or may not have carried a toddler out of the library last week because she was having a good old fashioned tantrum...
