It's Monday - Happy Halloween!

Hey there, ladies and gents! Happy Halloween!

First things first: who is dressing up today? What is your costume? Our family will be going full Star Wars this year, with a tiny Princess Leia, a young Luke Skywalker, Han Solo (me), and Obi Wan Kenobi (husband). It's the first year we have ever done a theme for the whole family and I have to confess that it's a lot of fun! We will have to see if we can get a few more years of it before someone decides they are too cool for such things.

This week, I read Alice Hoffman's newest book Faithful. The story is about the aftermath of a terrible accident in the life of a girl. Then I picked up Split Second, and took a rare journey (for me) into the serial suspense/mystery genre.

Today I started reading Truevine and my timing is perfect because Nonfiction November is on the horizon! Up next is Lessons in Belonging From A Church-Going Commitment Phobe.

Truevine: Two Brothers, a Kidnapping, and a Mother's Quest: A True Story of the Jim Crow South        Lessons in Belonging from a Church-Going Commitment Phobe

What are you reading this week?

  1. I've seen "Faithful" pop up on a bunch of blogs. I'll have to check it out!

  2. Happy Halloween - though ours is over as we did all our spooky activities over the weekend. I went as a witch and my daughter as Queen of the Damned. Not very original but it worked. Enjoy tonight. Emma

  3. Happy Halloween! I hope you post some photos of your family all dressed up! I've never read anything by Alice Hoffman, but I actually recorded "Practical Magic" (which I only learned recently is based on a book of hers) to watch today for the very first time!

Hope you like "Truevine" -- it's one of the gazillion non-fiction books on my to-read list.

  4. Now that the kids are grown and scattered except for one, and the grandkids live cross country and I only get to see pics of their costumes, I don't get into Halloween much. We carve a pumpkin to put outside and give out candy. Have fun with your group effort-- sounds like like a great night ahead of you :)

I read Faithful and enjoyed it. And if that is an older Baldacci (title sounds familiar) I read that too and enjoy most of his books. Have a great week!

  8. Happy Halloween! I was in a costume dilemma today. Should I dress in black and orange to celebrate at School? Should I wear school spirit gear to cheer on our girls' soccer team at State? Should I wear a Vikings sweatshirt as they play this evening? Too many options! Come see my week here. Happy reading!

    1. I enjoyed it. It was interesting to read a Hoffman story set in a more contemporary setting instead of her recent historical fiction!
