It's Monday and the gang is back together!

It's been a big week around here. We got D's 2nd grade assignments, so it's time to start buying the supplies and hoping that his teacher is great. My one sister is back from Mississippi for the week and the youngest one is about to head back to college, so we've been trying to get lots of family time in over the past few days. It's so nice to be all together, but all the driving back and forth makes me want to sleep a lot!

Reading-wise, I loved Karen Russell's short story collection Vampires in the Lemon Grove and then read Alice Hoffman's latest novel The Marriage of Opposites.

Up next is The Small Backs of Children from the library, which is about a photographer whose life is forever changed by a child in an iconic photograph. Then I will be digging into Emily Freeman's new book Simply Tuesday.

What are you reading this week?

  1. I can tell it's back to school time here in the Bluegrass - lots of buses in the morning traffic now! Hope he has a great year (and teacher!).

  2. Lidia Yuknavitch's The Chronology of Water was such an intense book so I'm curious about her fiction. Hope it's good!

    1. Thank you! I just started it, but I would certainly call it intense.

  4. Alice Hoffman - I've been telling myself for years I need to get round to reading her work! The Small Backs of Children sounds interesting, I look forward to your thoughts on that one.

I'm hoping to finish up The Ocean at the End of Lane by Neil Gaiman before delving in to The Maze Runner trilogy.

    1. Alice Hoffman is fantastic! The Dovekeepers is my favorite of hers, although she has a ton of books to read!

  5. I haven't heard of any of these but I was so taken with the cover of Vampires in the Lemon Grove that I was surprised when I was reading your blurb and saw "Vampires." Had to do a double take to make sure that was really the title on the book. Ha!!

Hope that back to school stuff goes smoothly. I'm glad I have another year before I have to go through all of that! Happy Tuesday. :)

    1. Haha, there is a kind of disconnect between the cover and the content. There are some very creepy stories in there!
