If this wonderful and magical thing happened, here is what I would buy:
1. Penguin Drop Cap Series
Ok, this might be cheating. But I'm going to count this beautifully designed bunch of books as one because who would be a terrible monster and choose between them?
Like everyone else, I am quite obsessed with this musical. I was lucky enough to see it last week with my dad and two of my sisters. I'm pretty sure this will be my next book purchase, so I can learn what happened on the way to creating this show.
3. The Veronica Mars books
I love Veronica on my tv, at the movie theatre, and in my books. I thought the two books did a great job of capturing our favorite detective and I hope there will be many more!
4. Autobiography of Mark Twain, volume 2
You all know Samuel Clemens (aka Mark Twain) was funny and crazy, right? He wrote his own life story, but instructed that it could only be published long after he (and anyone he might mock or disparage within its pages) would be long dead. I have the first volume, but this is the second one and it is gigantic (and pricey). I either need this magical gift card or I need to start searching for quarters under my sofa.
5. A library of great cookbooks
I love paging through cookbooks and picking recipes to try but they seem like such an extravagance when you can look up recipes online. But with a crazy gift card, I could get a bit extravagant and line those shelves in my kitchen!
6. The Nesting Place
I would love to get some ideas about how to make a beautiful, yet functional and kid-friendly home. Plus this book looks gorgeous!
7. Complete Saga
This comic series is still being released, so I guess this would be a wish for the future. But I would love to have a beautiful book with all of the issues.
8. The complete works of Madeleine L'Engle
I am slowly collecting all of her books, but I would go ahead and buy them all (in hardcover!).
9. All the books on my TBR list that my library doesn't carry
Makes sense, right?
Ok, that's nine and not ten but I think that will do! Thanks to The Broke and the Bookish for this fun question! What books would you run out and buy if someone handed you an unlimited gift card?
Oooo I'm adding The Nesting Place to my wish list right now!
ReplyDeleteMy Top Ten
I'm glad to hear it! I hope we both get to read it soon.
DeleteLove your idea for a library of great cookbooks! I LOVE cooking, but I use pinterest so much lately that I have been leaving my own cookbooks seriously neglected!

Right? It seems so indulgent, but there is something lovely about opening a big book with food splatters on the pages...
DeleteI second The Nesting Place! I need a comfy home that can survive pets and (adult) kids :)
ReplyDeleteI wish I had read any L'Engle, but I haven't (yet).
L'Engle is one of my all-time favorites. I would start with A Wrinkle in Time (you know, if you were wondering what I would recommend).
DeleteHope you receive the books you want soon. Happy reading!!
ReplyDeleteHere's a link to my TTT post for the week: http://captivatedreader.blogspot.com/2016/08/top-ten-tuesday-ten-books-id-buy-right.html
Thank you! I hope so too!
DeleteI love the Penguin Drop Cap series - they're simple and yet bold. I love it!!
ReplyDeleteSo with you on number 9! More than half my wishlist isn't carried by my library - boo!
Great list, Lindsey!
I think it still surprises me when my library doesn't have a book. It has happened many times, but I still have this sense of outrage. "But why don't you have the book I want?!?"
DeleteOh yes, those Drop Caps! They are so beautiful!
ReplyDeleteI know! They would just make any library so beautiful.
DeleteI like the way you think! I chose a couple of the books on my list today because my library either doesn't have them or else it's taking forever for me to get them.
ReplyDelete"The Nesting Place" looks fun! I'm in need of some design inspiration for our new house. We've tentatively decided not to paint (since we live in military housing, the walls are white and we'd have to repaint them all back a specific brand and color when we move) and it's just so... blah and bland in here.
It took us a while to paint in our house. We've been there a few years, but our house belongs to the church since my husband is a pastor. I think we are just finally settling into "this is our home, hopefully for the long haul" and really getting into personalizing.
DeleteI actually didn't know Mark Twain wrote an autobiography, that would be interesting. I enjoyed Tom Sawyer as a kid and always wanted to read more of his stuff but just never have. And those Penguin editions do look awfully nice.
ReplyDeleteIt's two gigantic volumes and it's a really funny read (although not very convenient to carry around(.
DeleteI love #9. :) I want all those books, too. (I just want them at the same price as a library book.)
ReplyDeleteThat would be great. Can someone make that happen, please?
DeleteThe Nesting Place has a great cover! And home design inspiration is always nice!
ReplyDeleteRight? It's so easy to just let things be the way they have been for years, but a redesign can make it feel like a whole new house!
DeleteThe Nesting Place looks like a great book!! My TTT
ReplyDeleteI think so too!
DeleteI had no idea about Mark Twain's autobiography, but it sounds quite amusing. And #9, also an excellent choice!
ReplyDeleteHe's so funny. I love that he foresaw his book would make people mad, so he arranged to have it published posthumously.
