It's Monday - Did you Readathon?

Hi everybody! How were your weeks? Did you Readathon on Saturday? I did, although I didn't get quite as much done as I had hoped. I knew there would be a lot going on - a trip into Philadelphia and back, my husband's senior class luncheon, some freelance work that had to be done - but I set my sights high anyway, which always leads to failure. Sigh. I did finish listening to Jane Eyre during the drive home and I read a total of 404 pages. I think I was hoping I would finish an entire book, which I didn't accomplish. I shouldn't feel too bad, though - I finished one on Sunday afternoon.

What did you read this week? Did you have fun with the Readathon this weekend? Tell me all about it in the comments. :)

  1. I did get to participate in the read-a-thon and since I had the day off and no other commitments, I pretty much read until my eyes couldn't take it anymore. Last year I didn't get to participate in either of the read-a-thons because of prior commitments. Looks like you finished a pretty impressive list of books last week! I want to read the Girl Who Circumnagivated Fairyland in a Ship of Her Own Making. It looks like fun!

    1. I'm glad you finally got to participate in a readathon! I thought that picking a YA book (The Girl Who...) would be good for when my brain stopped working after a few hours!

  2. I did readathon and didn't get as much done as I hoped either ;) Looks like you had a good week. The Slap interests me.

    1. People have very strong reactions to it and I understand why. I'm about half way through and I think the right word for it may be gratuitous.

  3. Ah - Philadelphia - home of my birth. :-)
I spend so much time reading and on computer I don't think my DH would accept a day for readathon. I am thinking of planning a day away for one sometime. LOL
I hope you enjoyed One Thousand Gifts - it's a book I want to read.
The Girl Who title is so cute. Hope that was fun.
    Enjoy your week.

    1. One Thousand Gifts was excellent. I closed the book and sort of wanted to start it all over again right in that moment.
      Have a wonderful week!

  4. I adore The Girl Who Circumnavigated Fairyland in a Ship of Her Own Making. I've read it twice so far (and still need to post my review). I also adore Housekeeping. It's a rather dark novel but so deliciously moody and Gothic. I hope you like it.

My favorite read this week was I am Half-Sick of Shadows by Alan Bradley Please come see what else I'm reading.

    1. The Girl Who... was a lot of fun! I'm really looking forward to reading Housekeeping. Robinson is one of those authors I keep hearing about, but haven't had the chance to read yet.

  5. I didn't participate this year. It is just too hard with young kids and my husband was on call so there was just no way. :(

The books you have listed, here, look quite interesting. I haven't heard of many of them so I will have to check them out. :)

    1. I completely understand! I was fortunate to have my in-laws take my son for a while, which really helped. I got some more time in after bedtime too!

  6. I think that's still good going considering you had so much on. I was lucky and was able to set the time aside. I doubt I will be able to commit to the full 24 hours next time.

The Slap looks interesting. I tried to get my book group to pick it back when it was running but no one went for it. Will have to pick it up for myself eventually. Hope you have a good week.

    1. The Slap is a lot to take in. The book is long and it is definitely not for the sensitive reader! I'm a little more than halfway through, so I should finish it in the next few days.
Thank you - I hope you have a great week too!

  7. I didn't participate in the readathon - but I wish I did...perhaps the next time around.

The F. Scott Fitzgerald book looks good - I'm going to see if my library has it.

    Have a great week!

    1. I found that my while my library stocked his novels, they didn't have his short stories. I'm reading a few from a collection I have and the rest from Project Gutenberg. I hope your library has it for you!

  8. I love the look of these titles, except I couldn't read the Slap. After my latest book I'm going to read some F. Scott Fitzgerald. xx

    1. I understand why you had trouble with The Slap. It's certainly not for the faint of heart. I am finding some of the later characters more relatable, so we shall have to see how the book holds up as a whole.

  9. I skipped the readathon because my 2nd grandbaby is due any day, but we are still waiting so I should have participated, lol. For some reason I has the worst reading weekend in a long time.

    Happy Reading!!

    1. Maybe you can get back into the swing of things by reading some children's books and claiming they are for 'research purposes' for that new grandbaby!

  10. Looking forward to hearing what you thought about the Fairyland book - I tried and tried and tried but couldn't get into it!

Happy Reading this week! It's Monday! What Are YOU Reading??

    1. It wasn't as light as I anticipated. I think because so much is happening and you are constantly being introduced to new characters, places, and concepts in Fairyland, you really have to pay attention.

  11. I really intended on participating in the readathon, but it just didn't work out. I always forget to put them on my calendar in advance and then I fill up the weekend with other plans!

    1. I completely get it. It seems almost impossible to put a whole day aside just for reading, doesn't it?

  16. No readathon for me. Those covers are so gorgeous. And like Amy above, anything Gothic definitely piques my interest. Off to check out more about HOUSEKEEPING!

    1. The author has some serious imagination! I feel like she must be a descendant of L. Frank Baum.

  18. I quite liked the look of The Slap when it first came out, as it sounded like a really interesting premise. But then I saw some bad reviews and it put me off, so I'll be really interested to see your review.

    1. The Slap is very in-your-face with sex and violence, so I can definitely see how it would not work for a lot of readers.
