It's Monday and I'm ready for a quiet Labor Day

Hello again, my bookish people. How are things?

It's been a busy few days around here. I think when you have small children, most days feel pretty busy! We are not doing anything really for Labor Day, but I am more than happy to take a quiet day before school starts on Tuesday. I hope I'm ready to have a second grader!

This week was a bit slower on the reading front than I like. The Word Exchange was really fascinating and fun but, by its nature of being about words and the devolution of language, it took some extra effort to read. Now I'm speeding through The Race for Paris for a blog tour this week and after that, I'm going to give Ink and Bone a whirl.

In other news, it's time for Readers in Peril! Hooray! I'm taking on Peril the First, which requires you to read four books of mystery, suspense, thriller, dark fantasy, horror, gothic, or the supernatural. I've decided to read The Last Policeman, A Monster Calls, Bellweather Rhapsody, and St. Lucy's Home for Girls Raised by Wolves. What are you reading for RIP?

  2. Right now, I'm working on The Ninth Chosen I: The Shadow Prison by K.A. Parkinson. He was just about to go into battle with the Devil's right-hand Daemon, when my Kindle ran out of juice and powered down. Talk about horror!

    1. No!! That always seems to happen at the worst possible moment, doesn't it?

  3. Oh, I LOVED Bellweather Rhapsody! It was such a rompy, slightly creepy book. Hope you enjoy it and the rest of your reads this week!

  4. I'm glad you enjoyed The Word Exchange -- but it's definitely a little bit challenging!

    1. I could feel that it was taking me longer to read it than a usual novel, but not because it was dragging or anything like that. It's a really cool concept for a story.

  5. I'm really excited for RIP X too! I've already got two books down for it, in fact. :) I'm leaving my options fairly open for the second two, because I'm a bit of a perfectionist when it comes to lists.

    Happy (creepy) reading!

    1. I love making lists. I think they are the only way I keep track of anything!

      Happy RIP to you too!

  6. I think you have some exciting reviews to come based off the books you've completed recently.

I hope you enjoy RIP X - I think you'll enjoy A Monster Calls. Out of curiosity, did you pick up the illustrated or non illustrated edition?

    1. Thanks Jade. I'm really excited to read A Monster Calls. I don't have the illustrated version, just the regular paperback. Do you have the illustrated one?

    2. No, I also went with the regular paperback. I do regret not having the illustrated edition... I think I would try and get it in the future though as I hear it lends to the whole reading experience.
