It's Monday and I hate colds

Hey friends, I'm writing this from my couch because I am trying this resting thing due to a very nasty cold. I wasn't sure I was actually sick at first, because my allergies hate me and the weather has been fluctuating all over the place. But I woke up Thursday morning and was really and truly miserable. I am happy to say that it has been a bit better each day, but the music I sang for Sunday morning's church service was several steps lower than usual!

This week, I read two spy stories - Ian McEwan's Sweet Tooth and Michael Wallace's new book The Crescent Spy. This is only my second McEwan and I didn't love it. Am I missing something or is this not the McEwan book I should have picked? The Crescent Spy was quite good. My review will be up Monday morning.

On the blog, I said adios to October (don't worry, Halloween pictures are included) and I linked up for week 1 of Nonfiction November, where we wrote about the nonfiction we have loved so far in 2015.

This week, I will be reading Escape from Mr. Lemoncello's Library and Out of Sorts.

What are you reading this week?

  2. Good that you rested up while you had/have a cold! All the best for your NF reading this month. The Chris Grabenstein book looks really inviting.

    1. It was a fun way to spend an afternoon! It made me want to go back and re-read The Egypt Game and The Westing Game.

  3. Hi there Lindsey, our reading theme this November-December has to do with mystery/spies/adventure (Mystereadventure) - and some of the titles you have here seem perfect for our current reading theme! Great to see them. I have to get my hands on Chris Grabenstein's novel. :)

  4. Glad you are feeling better! I've been a bit icky myself this weekend. I am sure it's the weather. So much rain. I can't tell you about McEwan. I couldn't even finish Atonement and everyone loved that. I'm reading multiple books (as always!) but very excited to have my reading mojo back. I had so much trouble focusing enough to read lately.

  5. Must be the season for nasty colds... I spent the weekend on the couch with one, too. Glad you're feeling better.

I've read a few McEwan novels. My favorites have been On Chesil Beach and Atonements. Picked up Sweet Tooth at the library books sale, but haven't read it yet... doesn't really sound like my thing from the blurb though. We'll see,

  6. I LOVE Mr. Lemoncello's Library and I'm so glad you're reading it! I hope you love it too! Did you know there's going to be a sequel?? Squee!

  7. It's good to hear you're getting better by the day - hopefully the resting helps out!

It's a shame one of your reads wasn't quite for you. I've only read one Ian McEwan novel and that was Atonement. I didn't enjoy it at the time, to be honest, but I don't know if that was more of an age thing as opposed to author thing. I hope you have better luck with your upcoming reads - they book sounding interesting, and with fun covers!!

  9. Sweet Tooth was the first McEwan I ever read and "what am I missing?" was EXACTLY how I felt about it! I was pretty disappointed despite the intriguing premise. Then, I gave him another shot with The Children's Act and was pretty blah about that one too...so, I decided I think he's just not my style.

  10. I love McEwan, but I've read Atonement and On Chesil Beach. This kinda makes me not want to mess with Sweet Tooth! lol I hope you're feeling better soon!

I liked Atonement too. Maybe I will try On Chesil Beach at some point and see how that one goes for me!

  11. I like spy novels but have never read that author. And there does seem to be a lot of ickiness going around- the time of year I guess. Feel better this week!

  12. I'm sorry you have a cold. Damn germs. I understand about being confused whether it's just allergies or a real cold. I went through that last week before the weekend and it was a cold. The chills did it. Get well soon. I added the Mr. Lemoncello book. I like its summary.

  13. When I did my last YA purge I decided to donate Mr. Lemoncello's to my Middle School/High School media center because I hadn't managed to actually put it on my reading plan since it arrived. I'll be looking for your review to see if I should check it out of the Media Center. I hope the cold is going away. Our school is just starting to get hit with the norovirus. I'm obsessively hand-washing and sanitizing everything. Come see what I am reading here. Happy reading!
