October Wrap-up and What I'm Into

Now that I look back on it, October had a lot going on! Our town had its annual harvest fair (see cute pictures of kiddos below).

We observed one of the most important literary days of the year - namely, the Fall 24 Hour Readathon. Our church celebrated its 270th Anniversary with a big service and a potluck afterwards (we are Baptists, after all). Our church's praise team participated in an area music fest and then, of course, it was Halloween with Lilo and Ash Ketchum!

What I Read/Reviewed:
I reviewed nine books this month. Two of them were nonfiction and seven were fiction. Four books came from the library, four were for review, and one was from my shelves.

My favorite read this month was Simply Tuesday. In a culture that focuses obsessively on being the best, it was so refreshing to read about the importance of our day to days lives and the work that we are doing at our jobs and in our homes.

The Heart Goes Last   All We Have Is Now   A Window Opens
We Should All Be Feminists  An Unnecessary Woman  A Monster Calls
Bellweather Rhapsody  Simply Tuesday   The Hummingbird

Favorite posts from this month:
I had fun putting together a list of some books to read in conjunction with Ann Patchett's Truth and Beauty. It's also great to break up the book reviews with a Top Ten Tuesday. This one was about the wishes you would ask a literary genie to grant.

What I'm watching:
Let's see. I am loving Jane the Virgin and The Good Wife, as usual. Sleepy Hollow is pitch perfect this season and we are really enjoying it again after a rocky time last year. At this point, we are watching Agents of SHIELD pretty much just for Fitz and Simmons.

What I've been listening to:
Still Hamilton. Always Hamilton. My sister and I may or may not text each other using Hamilton lyrics. And while we are talking about it, the #ParksandHam hashtag is everything beautiful in life.

I'm also listening to Audrey Assad's O Happy Fault on repeat. It's so very, very good.

What I've been cooking and baking:

Chicken Florentine from Half Baked Harvest (I served it over fettuccine instead of polenta. Still delicious!)

Chocolate Chip Applesauce Snack Cake from Mel's Kitchen Cafe: So, so delicious. Please go and make these immediately.

Honey Mustard Pork Chops from Budget Bytes: People, I had no leftovers. Both kids ate seconds. I repeat, both kids ate seconds!
