It's Monday and school's out for the summer!

Hey there, friends! Happy last week of June!

It's been a whirlwind of a week here in the literary house. D has his last day of school on Tuesday. We celebrated appropriately by going to IHOP for breakfast on Wednesday and setting up our little pool in the backyard. Then on Thursday night, we had an end of the school year movie night with How to Train Your Dragon 2.

This weekend, we celebrated my grandmother's 90th birthday with a big open house at our church. I think we had about a hundred people stop by during the afternoon and there was cake, cookies, and ice cream for everyone! My sister flew in from California for the weekend and my cousin and her husband stayed with us, so we tried to spend lots of good family time together too.

Reading-wise, I finished The Fifth Avenue Artists Society. Then I picked up (and sadly put aside) City of Secrets by Stewart O'Nan. But I got back into reading with the short story collection Summer Days and Summer Nights, which is perfect when reading time is limited!

Next up is More Than This, which has been living on my bookshelves for longer than I care to admit and The Silkworm, book #2 in the Cormoran Strike mystery series.

What are you reading this week?

  1. The kids look cute, and are getting so big now! Nice pic :) Yay for summer vacation for your son, and now your family has more quality time together. Happy birthday to your grandma. That's wonderful that she had so many folks stop by to wish her well.

  2. Oh, happy belated birthday to your Gran!

School's out here in Australia (in my part of the country) too but it's winter. I don't have kids but live in a beachside complex which gets busy during school holidays so make sure I know when the holidays kick off!

    1. Thanks Shannon. He often hears that they make him look like Harry Potter, which makes his 8 year old heart very happy.

I'm about halfway through More Than This and I have to say Ness is taking it places I did not expect!

  4. I still have to read the first book by Galbraith which is waiting on my Kindle. Our school has been out since June 6 and I am deep into vacation-mode living and reading. I hope you have a great summer with your family. Come see what I read last week. Happy reading!

  5. Adorable kids!

I am curious about Galbraith's books...I didn't read any of the Harry Potter books, but I'm definitely impressed with this author.

Enjoy your week, and here are MY WEEKLY UPDATES

    1. I'm enjoying them so far! I'm always impressed when an author writes good books in really different genres.

  6. Adorable kids! Enjoy the summer, I always found the pace of having my kids home to be crazy and less time for me to read...not a good thing.

    1. I think at the moment, I am luck to have one who still naps and one who is happy to sit next to me and read his own book. Summer can certainly be a crazy time, though!

  9. Hooray for summer! Enjoy every minute of it.

I picked up The Fifth Avenue Artists Society at the library last week, but for some reason, ended up putting it back on the shelf. Not really sure why... I'll have to go find it again. :)
