I was so excited to participate in the "A Day in the Life" blogger event. I knew just the day to take you along with me - Wednesday! It would be a really interesting day. I was going to drive to an editorial meeting for a project I'm working on, and then that night I would take you to voice lessons and rehearsals with me.
But then I woke up Wednesday morning with the stomach bug that had been plaguing my family all week long. Trust me, you don't want to hear about Wednesday. Instead, you get Thursday which is quieter but you know, not as messy...
7:15 a.m. David comes in to loudly announce that it's time to wake up. It wasn't quite, but now I am certainly awake. I get up, check my phone, brush my teeth, and grab David some clean clothes out of the dryer. Then I take a moment to do an important thing - an allergy pill and a tall glass of water are vital to start the day! After that, I pour a gigantic bowl of cereal (how do seven year olds eat so much?!?).
7:45 a.m. Time to make lunch for the boy. Today, he is having a peanut butter sandwich, blueberries, carrots, and donut holes for a treat, along with a juice box. I put a piece of toast in the toaster for me and then sit with David and eat with him as he reads me jokes.
8:15 a.m. Back upstairs for me to get dressed and ready for the day. When I get back downstairs, the boy has cleared his place and is putting on his shoes! It's as if he knew this day would be recorded for posterity...Then it's off to catch the 8:35 bus!
Ah! We're late for the bus! Just kidding. We are right on time! |
8:45 Back home! I take a few minutes to check in with the hubby before he gets ready for work and then it's time to start the day with this beautiful girl!
She gets a new diaper and we wave good-bye to Daddy before sitting down for a breakfast of peanut butter toast, an orange, and some blueberries. Girl loves her fruit. In the meantime, I sit down and try to get through my morning devotional. Success! Well, eventually...
I thought we might go out today to find some Easter clothes, but it is pouring outside and I am just not going to do that with a toddler, thank you very much. So we spend the morning reading, coloring, and playing with those Fisher-Price little people. We also try to play a game of catch, but it mostly devolves into Becca running away with the ball and laughing maniacally.
11 a.m. It's snack time! We have a very civilized set-up this morning, with both of us sitting at the kid's table with our respective books. I'm reading Erik Larson's Dead Wake and Becca is enjoying her big brother's library book Liberty Porter, New Girl in Town. She is very kindly sharing her bunny grahams with her mama.
11:30 We call to chat with my mom (Grammy) and have a lovely conversation with only occasional temper tantrums when I try to take a turn talking. Also, we somehow conference call with someone from Russia...You can't make this stuff up, guys.
12 p.m. It's naptime! Up we go with our four best stuffed friends. I put on her light and some lullabies, and it's time to get to work! Did I say work? I actually meant lunch, with a side of reading...
1 p.m. Now we are getting to work. Sometimes when you have a sick family, your kitchen gets a bit out of control. It's a disaster zone around here - time to tackle the mess! Then it's time to put away laundry and chat with the husband when he gets home.
3:30 p.m. It's off to the bus stop to pick up the boy! This begins the long free-fall towards bedtime. David plays in the backyard while I get Becca up and give her another snack (she's not much for lunch so I do snacks before and after naptime). Then David comes in and does his homework and chores.
The electrician comes to repair some things, so we can have power to our living room again. I start dinner while Becca does puzzles and David plays in his room. Tonight's menu is chicken stuffed with feta, ricotta, and spinach along with oven roasted veggies. The kids eat while husband finishes up with the electrician.
7 p.m. Then it's time to get ready for bed. Stories and teeth brushing for everyone!
After the kids are in bed, the hubby and I finally sit down for some dinner together.
9:30 p.m. It's time to get in bed, watch some tv, and finish this post. I'm one tired gal.
Thanks for joining us for this day and thanks so much to Trish for hosting! Check out the days of other bloggers at Love, Laughter, and Insanity!
Your kids! Ooooh the cute!
ReplyDeleteHaha. Thanks!
DeleteAll the cuteness!!!! I hope the stomach bug played out quickly. Ugh! Such a nightmare!
ReplyDeleteFingers crossed, I think we are finally done. Now it's time to deep clean the house and catch up on everything!!
DeleteWhat precious kiddos! Love all the pics and that dinner looks really yummy! Glad that the bug has moved along and hope all of you have a great weekend!
ReplyDeleteThanks Kay! It got raves from 3 out of 4 (sometimes you just can't convince one of the kiddos...).
Deletetoo cute! I'm reading Dead Wake now too. And hoping the sickness has gone away
ReplyDeleteHow are you liking it? I just finished it and thought it was so fascinating.
DeleteI love the pictures! Your snack time sounds delightful. I love the moments where we sit and read quietly though they are few and far between. Hope the sickness has left you guys for good!
ReplyDeleteI know I am pretty lucky to have two kiddos who both like to read (or at least look at books). Sometimes we can get in some side by side reading time! :)
DeleteThe stomach bug seems to have hit my house today. I am hoping I can avoid it, but what are the chances of that?
ReplyDeleteI am right there with you in needing that allergy pill! Especially this time of year. I enjoyed reading about day. Your children are adorable. They are so lucky to have you as their mom. I hope everyone is feeling better!
No!!! I hope it was a brief visit. The stomach bug is just not something anyone should have to deal with, especially not when kids are involved!
DeleteSorry about the stomach bug, and ah I am reading Erik Larson too! How are you liking it?? And those kids are so cute!
ReplyDeleteI really liked it. Now I realize I have three others books by him still to tackle. What did you think??
DeleteGlad you got your electricity! The utilities suddenly seem much more useful when you have to do without.
ReplyDeleteYour dinner looks lovely!
Joy's Book Blog
It was funny because it was just the one room of the house. But of course it was the one with the tv and the playstation, so there was some unhappiness in the ranks!
DeleteAdorable family! I agree with Joy that your dinner looks delicious, too!
ReplyDeleteThanks! It's always a good feeling when you find a recipe that is yummy and healthy.
DeleteTerrific post, Lindsey, and your kids are adorable! I miss the toddler years. :-)
ReplyDeleteThey are such fun, aren't they? Completely and utterly exhausting most days, but fun! :)
DeleteLittle People are the best toys! Your dinner looks good :)
ReplyDeleteThey are so fun! BG is just getting to the age where we can start to act out stories with toys, so it's really fun to watch.
DeleteYour kids are adorable! Looks like a good day (I wouldn't have gone out in the pouring rain with a toddler either). Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteThere are some times you must venture out with small people, but otherwise I try to avoid the wet. muddy mess!
DeleteSorry to hear about the stomach bug, hopefully it's made it's rounds and has traveled elsewhere now.
ReplyDeleteYour children are so cute! I never do anything with my toddler if it's a nasty day outside. He wants to walk everywhere and I'd prefer to not get the both of us soaked through :)
Thanks for sharing your day with us!
Thanks! I know it's fun for them to play in the rain and mud, but it's such a bear to clean up!
DeleteYou're once busy lady, especially in the morning!
ReplyDeleteYou know I think both you're children are adorable, but you and Becca with your books at snack time is just too cute!
:-)
Life’s Open Pages
Haha, it was one of my favorite parts of that day. :)
DeleteI love your comment about the free-fall until bedtime. I admit that sometimes I start counting down the hours until bedtime. And I love this: "It's as if he knew this day would be recorded for posterity." Ha!!!
ReplyDeleteAnd trying to share the phone with a toddler! Can be so frustrating! :) Glad you shared your day Lindsey--your children are adorable!
Yes, the freefall is definitely real. Especially when you have kids in school or you have to work late! There are so few hours to fit in so many things.
DeleteThanks for hosting this, Trish. It was so much fun!
Full day but a fun one and lots of family time!
ReplyDeleteYup, I think we struck a good balance with that day!
DeleteSo glad you chose to not share Wednesday. ;-) I love how the books seemed to sneak into most of your pictures.
ReplyDeleteRight? Nobody wants to hear about that. I didn't even want to know about it...
DeleteI can't even begin to imagine a child that sleeps past 7, or a job that starts after 8! Good thing we are early birds at my house.
ReplyDeleteI am very thankful to have good sleepers, because I tend to be a night owl and I like to get a good eight hours of sleep if I can!
