What wonderful authors did you read for the first time this year?

I haven't read any books by these authors. I'm going to check them out. I'm not a huge fan of short story collections, but Vampires in the Lemon Grove sounds really interesting.
ReplyDeleteIt was a wonderful collection. It was so well-written and just the prefect amount of creepy!
DeleteOh my word, you will adore Pastrix! (I sure did) I really need to get my hands on a copy of Accidental Saints. We talked about it on The Socratic Salon..well, some of us did. I haven't read it yet, obviously ;)
ReplyDeleteSwamplandia! Get to that one ASAP. It was incredible.
I think Pastrix just might meet any gift card that ends up under my Christmas tree...
DeleteI am interested in Swamplandia!, but I have to confess I didn't fall head over heels for the short story that apparently was the starting point. Have you read it?
Oh I like the way you did the post with the "looking forward' books. The Middlesteins was a fun read!
ReplyDeleteI think it's the best part of finding a new author! Debut authors are wonderful, but knowing that there are more books to read is the best. :)
DeleteI like how you set this up! Have enjoyed a couple of Lucy Knisley's books and Jami Attenberg is on my wish list. Will check out the others :)
ReplyDeleteKnisley is great! I know she has several other books, but I think I've heard the best buzz about An Age of License. Have you read that one?
DeleteWheee! Love Karen Russell. I really want to read St. Lucy's next. Also, Lucy Knisley is my FAVORITE! Loved Relish and Displacement. Loved those more than An Age of License. Also, French Milk!
ReplyDeleteWell maybe I picked the wrong Knisley to read next! Realistically, I will probably read whichever one my library can get to me the fastest. :)
DeleteHaha, I know how that goes. They're all good. Even my not-faves are still really well done.
DeleteOh so many I don't know. I really need to try Karen Russel's works, not sure which one start with though.
ReplyDeleteOooh - I need to read The Middlesteins! Attenberg made my list this year too.
ReplyDeleteI don't know any of these authors.
ReplyDeleteWhere have I been? :)
Thanks for sharing.
