It's Monday, so let's talk books and things!

Hi again. It's been a crazy few days, right?

In the interest of honesty, I haven't been out of the house since I got home from work on Friday night. We got quite a bit of snow this weekend. There has been a lot of reading, sitting around in pajamas, and I may have made some muffins which are rapidly disappearing. It appears that the fun isn't over quiet yet, since we got the message today that school is cancelled on Monday. Of course, D decided to celebrate his impending day off by spiking a fever, so things can only get better from here...

On the blog this week, I posted reviews of Advent In Narnia, Escape from Mr. Lemoncello's Library, and A Curious Beginning. I also did my weekly check-in for Alexander Hamilton. We will be reading it for the next five weeks or so...

I read The Queen of the Night, which was great. It's like tumbling down a rabbit hole, where our narrator is led to recount story after story. Trust me, you will be happy to follow her into a circus tent, the back room of a brothel, or the glorious stage of a Paris opera house. Then I read The Memory Keeper's Daughter, which has been sitting on my shelf for longer than I want to admit.

Next up for me is Wildflower by Drew Barrymore and Felicity, Mary Oliver's latest collection of poetry.

What are you reading this week?

  1. I hope you guys aren't snowed in too badly! I was watching the reports and it looks like a big mess. Sounds like you're spending it the right way- indoors with books (and muffins don't hurt). :)

Enjoy the snow day tomorrow and stay warm!

    1. It was a couple of feet. The real problem is when everything melts and refreezes. Nothing like falling on your butt when walking your kid to the bus! :)

I hope you are had a great snow day too!

  3. Books, pajamas and muffins sound like a wonderful way to make the best of being snowed in! Sometimes I do that without the snowed in excuse. Lol. The Drew Barrymore book interests me - I love her. Stay warm!

  4. Sounds like your family had a great snowy weekend - did you receive much snow? Being on the other side of the world, I've only been seeing the blizzard that the US has been experiencing via pictures. I hope you're all staying safe and warm!

I've been seeing Wildflower a lot around the blogging community of late. I love her as an actress and a person - I think it'll make an interesting read.

    Happy Reading!

    1. We got a few feet. It's not the worst I've ever seen, but it's definitely enough to keep you inside for a few days.

She seems like a sweet person, doesn't she? I didn't love the book, but I really like her.

    1. Thank you. I do appreciate a few snow days a year, as long as it doesn't mean school goes until August!

    1. I always find poetry difficult to talk about. I think it's mostly because I don't feel like I know enough about it. But I love Mary Oliver!

  11. "The Queen of the Night" sounds really interesting! I'll have to check out your review of "A Curious Beginning" -- I read it at the end of last year and was surprised how well I liked it. It was my first Deanna Raybourn book but I definitely want to read more of her stuff, and I'll certainly be continuing the Veronica Speedwell series!
