It's Monday and we went to the fair!

Whew, what a week!! The first half was relatively normal, but the second half was packed! We had a playdate with a friend who is moving next week, went to the fair in my parent's town, and watched the fireworks from a boat. On Saturday, we drove into Philly to see my sister's place and then left D to spend the afternoon with his aunt at the museum. That night, I baked chocolate cupcakes with raspberry buttercream for a Sunday luncheon. Sunday was church with lots of music for me to play/sing and then we had a thank you lunch for the family who is leaving. Suffice it to say that everyone took a nap during rest time that day!

Somehow I managed to read four books this week. I'm not sure how, until I remember that Grief Is The Thing With Feathers is more like a novella (and I knocked out most of it during one ride on the stationary bike) and I was well into June at the beginning of the week. I also read Anne Lamott's Traveling Mercies and The Gilded Years, which imagines the story of the first black woman to attend Vassar.

Grief Is the Thing with Feathers    The Gilded Years

Next up for me is Alice Hoffman's Here on Earth, which I picked up at a library book sale, and Sleeping Giants, which is borrowed from said library.

What are you reading this week?

  1. I hope you like Sleeping Giants, I read that one recently. And fireworks from a boat- that would be fun! Have a super week!

    1. It was perfect. My in-laws have a boat and they shoot off the fireworks from the harbor, so you can't get much closer than that!

  2. It does sound like you had a busy week! At least you were able to squeeze a nap in (that's a luxury I rarely get these days!)

    1. It is a very rare occurrence for me, but I really needed one that day!

  3. Sounds like a good week - any week with raspberry buttercream has to be fairly decent, right? ;)

Sleeping Giants looks like it could be a good one. Hope you have another good week ahead!

Have a look at my weekly roundup post : #IMWAYR

  4. You read a ton! Grief is the Thing With Feathers really is a quick read - I think I ended up reading it multiple times, though!

    1. I can see that, especially the crow parts. I think a re-read would clarify some of those sections.

    1. It wasn't until I sat down to write this post that I realized just how good a reading week I had!

I hope you have a great reading week too, Kathy.

  6. It has been ages since I went to a fair, probably because all of my grandchildren are old enough to go on their own, with friends...lol.

I loved June...and I always enjoy Alice Hoffman. Have a great week, and here are MY WEEKLY UPDATES

    1. Haha, I think it's been quite a few years since I went on my own! It's fun to watch the wonder in the kids' eyes when they see a ride or get a giant bucket of popcorn. :)

  7. Sounds like a fun-filled week! The kids had fun, your cupcakes sound to-die-for (just what I need this week, lol, more calories!) and I'm curious about your thoughts on the Lamott book.

    Enjoy your week, Lindsey.

  8. How is June going? I started it awhile back, but was having trouble getting into it. But, I admittedly didn't give it that great of a shot. And I'm interested in The Gilded Years!

    1. It was ok. I found one of the storylines more interesting than the other. I guess it's a danger of dual narratives!

  9. I make fun of my sister because she can never remember if she's read a book or not, but now I'm wondering if I've read Here on Earth! I know I owned it for a while, at least?

I SO want to get to Grief Is The Thing With Feathers.

    1. It's not my favorite of hers. I wonder if I would have picked it up had I known it was based on Wuthering Heights.

Grief is the Thing with Feathers is short, but it's such a fascinating (and unique) way to tell a story.
