Top Ten Tuesday: Hyped Books I've Never Read

It's Tuesday again, so it's time to make a list! The ladies over at The Broke and the Bookish are asking which popular books you haven't read yet. Make sure to visit them to see the lists from other bloggers

Five I Hope To Read:

Wolf Hall (Thomas Cromwell, #1)  An Untamed State

Five I Will Probably Never Read:

The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo series (It just doesn't interest me so much.)
50 Shades of Grey (Because 50 Shades of Grey. Need I say more?)
Heaven Is For Real (I believe in the existence of heaven, but can't help but feel there is something manipulative about using a small child to try to prove it)
Game of Thrones (So long and so violent)
Water for Elephants (Saw part of the movie; just not that interested)

A Game of Thrones (A Song of Ice and Fire, #1)  The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (Millennium, #1)

What hyped books have you skipped? Do you hope to read them some day?

  1. I feel the same way about A Game of Thrones... I like the show but I was confused for the first season of it with all of the characters and am not sure the book would be much easier. Do you watch the show?

Here is my list :) http://busybrunettesbookshelf.blogspot.com/2015/07/top-ten-tuesday-hyped-books-ive-never.html

    1. I've watched bits here and there, but it seems like people are freaking out every other week because something crazy and violent has happened!

  2. I've tried Wolf Hall several times and just can't get going on it, which frustrates me to no end...it's so squarely in my wheelhouse!!

    1. It does seem like something you would like! Do you know what in particular isn't working for you?

  3. I read the first Larsson book, but haven't bothered with the rest. So yeah, no need to read that! :P

    1. You're making me feel so much better about my unread books! :)

  4. Heaven is For Real creeped me out a bit. LOL! We read it for book club last year..and as a nonbeliever plus a mother to a child about the same age as the child in the book, it just felt weird.

Like Sharlene mentions above, read the first Dragon Tattoo...was enough for me. I also felt underwhelmed by An Untamed State. It was good but it won't be making my Top Ten list for the year.

    1. I think parents know that kids are just so susceptible to suggestion, so I just have trouble believing that the boy's story wasn't shaped in some way.

I heard An Untamed State was a really dark, hard read so I don't know that I would be reading it anytime soon anyhow!

  5. I started Jonathon Strange and Mr Norall once, I may finish it...some day.

Water For Elephants is good, but then I quite liked the film too so maybe it isn't for you

    1. It is definitely a lengthy read! Did you like what you've read so far?

  6. Sigh... it always happens that I stumble upon books that I SHOULD have put on my own list! "Jonathan Strange" and "An Untamed State" are on my to-read list. And so is "Wolf Hall," though I tried watching the PBS miniseries and it literally put me to sleep, so I'm not sure anymore if I want to attempt it. I have read "The Girl With All the Gifts" (as well as some of the books on your won't-read list) and I can recommend that one.

    1. I think that's the point with these lists! I'm glad to hear you liked The Girl With All the Gifts. I hope to read it sooner rather than later!

  9. Lots of us have 50 Shades and GoT on their lists ... so who bought all the books?!

  10. A Monster Calls is amazing, and like you I mean to read An Untamed State. I agree with your do not read list. I read the first two Game of Thrones, and while I can see the appeal, they just aren't worth the time commitment for me. Too bloody.

    1. I can't believe I still haven't read A Monster Calls. The Chaos Walking series was some of my favorite reading of the past few years!
