It's Monday and we have snow and pancakes!

This was a pretty normal week around here. It's been a good weekend, though, with balance between rest and getting some things done. It snowed in NJ today, but thankfully it waited until we got home from church. So we did the appropriate things like napping, baking fresh bread, and eating pancakes for dinner. D has a day off tomorrow for Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. Here's hoping I remember that and don't hustle him to the bus stop to stand there and wonder where everyone else went.

In the past seven days, I read the newest volume of Saga, finally picked up The Only Ones (which has been sitting on my shelf for too long), and read Elizabeth Gilbert's Big Magic. I'm still hanging out with Alexander Hamilton, along with the other ladies and gents doing the readalong at Reading Rambo. Goodreads tells me that I am about a quarter of the way through this 800 page behemoth.

This week, I'm picking up The Queen of the Night. It's coming out in a few weeks and has been getting a lot of positive buzz. Then I'm going to my own shelves to finally read The Memory Keeper's Daughter.

    1. It was a really good day, and I think we all needed to relax a little bit!

Well, I liked parts of Big Magic. There were other portions that were a little bit out there for my personal tastes...

  4. The Memory Keeper's Daughter looks like a book I'd enjoy. I also finished reading Big Magic a few weeks ago, but found it isn't much to my liking, but I can see its potential widespread appeal primarily because of its readability.

    1. I agree! Gilbert said some thing that I think were really important, but there were other sections that just didn't resonate with me.

  5. It sounds like you had a good reading week last week, with some intriguing books coming up this week.

Will you be reviewing Big Magic? I've been seeing it about a lot and I'm keen to check it out but more opinions always helps.

Sounds like you had a nice relaxing weekend. A lot of the UK had snow over this past weekend, but not here where I am in Wales. We just had rain, and we have rain pretty much every day so makes no change.

    Happy Reading!

    1. I might write a mini-review before taking Big Magic back to the library. It wasn't great for me, but I understand why a lot of people love it.

Sorry you haven't had any snow by you yet. Or are you happy with your rain and warmer temperatures? :)

  8. I love your idea of a nonchalant snow day. That's the way to do it. Oh, thank you for exposing me to The Queen of the Night. I am adding that to my TBR!

    1. So far it's great in a "I don't want to go to sleep because I could read more chapters!" kind of way.

    1. Thanks Kathy, I try to mix up my reading a bit. I find it more interesting that way and it helps me to keep them all straight in my brain! :)

  10. Alexander Hamilton seems to be having quite a moment! Anything that gets more nonfiction into people's hands is A-OK with me :)

    1. He certainly is! I was pulled in by the musical, like many other people. But now that I am reading the biography, I think I would have enjoyed it even without songs running in the back of my mind!

  11. I've been so curious about The Only Ones! I checked it out from the library a while back, but ended up having to return it before I could read it.

    1. It took me a while to get into it. I think it was because the narrator herself either doesn't know what is going on or doesn't want to tell you. But when I got into it, I couldn't put it down!

  12. Ooh I've been keeping my eye on Queen of the Night. But once again have far too many things to read already... will wait!

Also pancakes for dinner are the best.
