It's Monday and I saw Hamilton!!!

Hey friends! How are you doing?

I may have done a tiny thing this week called going to see Hamilton. I went with my dad and two of my sisters and it was an incredible experience. My sisters and I have already decided that we need to go a few more times simply because every single person on stage is active in every scene. There is so much to watch that it's hard to know where to place your attention! The standouts for me were the amazing performances by Christopher Jackson and Renee Elise Goldsberry. I'm really glad I got to see them both.

On the train ride home (as everyone else took a nap), I finished reading Paper and Fire. Then I dipped into Mary Oliver's House of Light throughout the week. I also read My Name is Asher Lev and remembered all over again that Chaim Potok is a subtly powerful writer.

Next up is Alexis Smith's Marrow Island, which I have been anxiously awaiting since reading her book Glaciers during a 24 Hour Readathon. Then I will be reading Imagine Me Gone, which follows one man's struggles with depression from his viewpoint and those of his wife and children.

What are you reading this week?

  1. I've heard so many good things about Hamilton. Glad you have the opportunity to see it. I've listened to the soundtrack and really liked it to my surprise. Not my usual type of music and I thought it was creative to take a nonfiction biography and create a rap musical.

Paper and Fire is on my TBR pile. I hope I get to read it soon. Ink and Bone was one of my favorites from last year.

    1. Absolutely! It's such a crazy idea, but I think Miranda really made it work.

I hope you enjoy Paper and Fire! I will be waiting (im)patiently for the third book until it comes out.

  2. I have to admit that I'm more than a little jealous that you've seen Hamilton! I'm going to have to wait until 2017, when it comes to Portland...

    1. That's not so long to wait now! It will be interesting to me to see how long the buzz takes to die down in various cities (if it ever does).

  4. Yay for Hamilton! I've heard so much about it. I'll bet it was fun seeing it with family. And Marrow Island- don't know anything about that one but it sounds kinda spooky!

    1. It was a really great evening. It was kind of fun because my sisters and I are very committed to Hamilton, but my dad went along because he likes history and he's game to go along to pretty much anything.

Marrow Island was surprisingly haunting. I think I'm still processing it a bit.

  5. Yay for Hamilton and I'm glad you enjoyed it.

I've been meaning to pick up Ink and Bone forever but just haven't managed to get around to it. What did you think of Paper and Fire?

Thanks for the wrap up. Have a look at my #IMWAYR on my Blog.

  6. Hamilton fever hasn't really hit Down Under yet, but I've heard loads of awesome things about it, so maybe I should investigate!
I haven't picked up a Chaim Potok for ages - you've reminded me that I really should.

  7. I'm far away in Texas but I don't really understand the Hamilton craze. I need to find out more about it.

My Name is Asher Lev is definitely one of my all-time favorite reads. Brilliant.

    Here's a link to my It's Monday.

  8. YAY HAMILTON! I'm so jealous of all the people who get to experience it in the flesh. Imagine Me Gone doesn't seem like something I would normally go for, but actually sounds really interesting. I'll have to add it to my (eternal) TBR :)

  10. That is SO exciting! I am so jealous. I tried to get tickets for a show in Chicago, but they sold out before I was able to get home from work to order them. Now I have to wait until they release tickets for shows in April and beyond. I will see that show one day!

  15. SO exciting about Hamilton! I have tickets for October and I'm crossing my fingers that Renee and Chris will still be there. How were all the newbies??

  16. I am sooo jealous that you got to see Hamilton! When it first came to Chicago, tickets were going for like, $500+, it was ridiculous.

Paper and Fire looks really cool. Is that a series worth checking out?

  17. HAMILTON! My heart still aches that Leslie Odom, Jr. is no longer Aaron Burr, but I bet it was an amazing experience regardless. I hope you really do get to go a few more times!

Also, I'm super interested to hear what you think about Marrow Island! It's on my stack as well.
